Five summers of @highlandstage shows! The first year she did a show with this company, she was 7 years old and she played a boy in Thoroughly Modern Millie. She was still playing a boy in real life at that time so it was a no brainer. That year we saw her love of theater light her up, but we also saw the increasing struggle and disconnect as she tried to articulate that she wasn’t the boy we all thought she was. She transitioned the following year and played female roles in the next three shows -Footloose, Damn Yankees, and Beauty and the Beast. Her confidence and joy in performing exploded now that she was living life as herself – on and off the stage. This year, the show is Newsies. She was NOT thrilled. She didn’t want to play a boy at first. She knew it was just acting, but she’d spent a long time playing a boy in life, and she didn’t want to do it again. The wonderful theater folks understood how hard this could be for her and were willing to support her however they could. She decided she’d be okay playing a newsboy, and the music and dancing quickly won her over. The smile in this picture says it all. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come, how far she’s come, in the past few years. A year or two ago, I’m not sure she would have felt confident enough to embrace a “boy role”. She knows who she is regardless of what she wears or role she plays. Life is never easy, and sometimes as parents we feel like we’re screwing everything up. But one thing we know is that this is who she is and affirming, supporting, and celebrating her in that has changed everything. *As always, shared with Rebekah’s permission. #theaterkids #thisiswhattranslookslike #girlslikeus #transisbeautiful #transkids #hsnewsies2018 #highlandstage #newsies

Esto es positivo ya que en su momento se pedía un papel que acreditara la disforia de género, haberse sometido a un proceso hormonal, así como la mayoría de edad.

“En cualquier caso se debe oír al menor en función de su grado de madurez”, especifica la ley.
