Selena Gomez y su mensaje de apoyo por el mes de Orgullo LGBT

Como ya te contamos cuando hablamos de la carta de Britney Spears, para este mes de junio la web de Billboard ha recopilado las cartas de decenas de artistas dirigidas a la comunidad LGBTQ. Pero hay más artistas que han escrito palabras apoyándonos. Tal es el caso de la carta de Selena Gomez a la comunidad LGBTQ de la que te hablamos a continuación.

Britney tenía la primera de las cartas, veíamos cómo la había escrito a mano y cómo decía que amaba a sus fans homosexuales, bisexuales, transexuales y queer por su amor incondicional.

Selena, que ha apoyado económicamente a ONGs LGBT, cuenta que desde pequeña recuerda que los domingos iba a un brunch con su madre y un grupo de amigos. Por entonces ni siquiera comprendía que esos amigos eran todos gays, solo veía que estaba rodeada de gente cariñosa, amable y divertida.

Ahora Selena agradece haber crecido en un ambiente sin prejuicios. Cuenta también que en su 16º cumpleaños una drag queen la sorprendió cantando una de sus canciones favoritas.

Selena Gomez también habla de cómo vio el documental de Madonna ‘Truth or Dare‘, que le encantó y le permitió ver lo lejos que habían llegado los derechos del colectivo LGBTQ. La cantante de ‘Good For You’ concluye su carta diciendo que aún queda mucho por hacer.

I remember as a young child going to brunch on Sundays with my mom and her group of friends. I had no idea they were all gay as I didn’t even comprehend what that meant at the time. All I knew is that I loved being surrounded by these kind, fun and loving friends my mother had around her. I definitely give credit to her for raising me in an environment that was incredibly open-minded and non-judgmental. She also surprised me at my 16th birthday party with a performance by the most beautiful drag queen singing my favorite song. I don’t think most 16 year olds can say that!

 My co-writer Justin Tranter couldn’t believe I had never seen the Madonna documentary Truth or Dare and so while we were in Mexico he sat me down to watch it with him. I loved it and was especially struck by how groundbreaking it was for the gay rights movement and how far LGBTQ rights have come in my lifetime. There is still a significant amount of work to do and I look forward to the day when a person is never judged, discriminated or feared for their sexuality.
